Downtown Bistro

Located beside the parking space of an office building, Downtown Bistro is an affordable place that also offers nice ambience and (of course) dishes

Tenderloin / Rp 120k
An okay dish. Nice presentation, and lovely potato cake! I think it's some kind of pan fried mashed potato with a hint of cheese, not really sure about that, but it tasted real nice. The barbecue sauce was also tasty.

Turkey Sandwich / Rp 47k
Just another okay dish. Quite tasteless I would say, if it wasn't for the extra ketchup and chilli sauce.

Nutella Milkshake / Rp 35k
Tasted like nutella enough, but nothing exceptional.

Mango Tea / Rp 28k
Great drink! It has real mango slices in it, unlike the usual mango iced tea. But it was a bit too sweet for my liking, maybe I should have asked them to serve the sugar separately.

If you want to grab a meal somewhere nice without having to spend too much, Downtown Bistro is definitely an option. They are also open from early in the morning for breakfast.

Le Quartier

Finally I got a chance to have a proper brunch! Hahaha it was at Le Quartier in Gunawarman area. I arrived around 10, but they actually open from 7.30. They have different menus for different times of the day which you can drool over here : http://www.lequartier.co.id

The place was quite spacious and nice. My only complaint would be the flies! It was minor though. Oh, and they play nice music as well.

Cappuccino Fredo / Rp 42k
I chose iced cappuccino for my drink and it was for no regret. It was a nice glass of cappuccino, just perfect to kick off the day!

Well, almost all the breakfast menu comes with two slices of bread and fruit salad. One of the bread slices was white and another (some kind of) whole wheat. And as you can see they come with butter and apricot and strawberry jam. Gotta say I like the white one better because it was crunchy, while the whole wheat one was kinda hard to bite.

As for the fruit salad, it consists of sliced melon, grapes, strawberry, and cantaloupe, sprinkled with slices of almonds on top.

Cinnamon French Toast / Rp 68k
I like it! Tasted really nice especially with the syrup.

Poached Eggs Benedicte / Rp 98k
Plate of happiness!! Well, I don't know what that leaf on top of the dish is so I left it untouched, but the rest tasted great! The poached egg was placed on top of pork ham (you can choose beef instead) and spinach on an english muffin. To top it off was of course the mousseline (or hollandaise) sauce. I like how perfectly cooked the eggs were that the yolk just came out running as I cut through the egg. The baked potato was also seasoned nicely.

Yes, it was a pleasant brunch and yes, I really hope I could revisit this place soon, either for breakfast or other meal. No complaints on the service whatsoever!

Paulaner Brauhaus : Reopened!

Yes, they are now open again after almost a year! And they're having this awesome promotion, lasting until the end of this January:
  • 25% every Monday
  • Tuesday to Friday on lunch time, they'll give you a free starter or soup or dessert for every main course ordered.
  • Tuesday to Thursday, 10 pm onwards, you are entitled to a free second drink for every drink purchased.
So I decided to drag my parents on a Monday lunch here, and here are what we had:

0.5 L Dunkel Bier (dark beer) / Rp 95k
I personally prefer the "Hell" one, because this one tastes somehow too light.

Original Pretzel / Rp 23k
Never tasted this before, so I was really wondering what it would taste like. It was one big pretzel! Tasted nice, although I would have prefer a crunchier and thinner version of pretzel.

Paulaner Platter / Rp 275k
With parents around I could only play safe with the food. I mean, I don't wanna get anything they don't like because that would turn down their mood and that would be bad! So I ordered this because we've had this before.

The platter consists of poached smoked pork chop, 1 Debrecener sausage, meatloaf, 2 Vienna sausages, 2 Nuremberger sausages and crispy pork knuckle served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes.

My favorite part is of course the skin of the crispy pork knuckle! Extremely delicious and crunchy it is. Apart from that, I would say I like the Debrecener sausage and the mashed potatoes best. The Debrecener is the one on top-left of the picture and it has a crispy skin and not-too-soft texture. The mashed potatoes also tasted really good, the consistency was just right and it tasted a bit milky, just perfect for my liking.

German Bread Basket / Rp 30k
Well, I got a sourdough, salt-stick, dark beer bread, and mini pretzel in my bread basket. I don't really know which is which, but all tasted fine. The only thing you should pay attention to when having these bread is that they sprinkled some "rocks of salt" on top and if you get to bite that rock, the saltiness would kill your tastebuds! Hahah so watch out for those "salt rocks"!

What can I say? I just love this place and it's even better now that they are all renovated and stuffs. More choices on the menu as well. Hope I could go back soon for their desserts, which I didn't order on this visit due to my full stomach!

Awan Lounge

So this is a (quite) new place I've been hearing about a few times. Basically it's a lounge on the rooftop of Kosenda hotel. My visit was totally unplanned, having found Kosenda while roaming around Sabang area. To get to the Awan Lounge itself, you need to take the elevator to the 8th floor of the hotel and then take the stairs to the rooftop. And once you get there, you'll get this kind of view:

Well, basically they have a small open kitchen and a bar. The view was not spectacular but it was quite nice. It's really dark in the night so it was a bit hard to take pictures! Pretty sure this place would also be decent during the day.

They serve mainly drinks and some tapas. So here's what I had:

Lapis Ketan / Rp 40k

Unfortunately this dish was tasteless except for the strawberry, seriously. In case you're wondering, it's supposedly "layered of sticky rice with caramel, pandan, and black glutinous rice" (according to the menu).

So personally I think this would be great place to hang out, esp. if you're a drinker. Service was also great, no nosy waiter coming by all the time. But if you want to have something to eat, maybe it's better to try Waha Kitchen downstairs.
